AUSD Teacher Of The Year Surprised With Announcement
On Tuesday morning, Lynette Ellis and her 3rd grade students at Alpine Elementary (AES) were surprised when it was revealed that she was selected to represent the Alpine Union School District as the District Teacher of the Year. A contingent led by Superintendent Dr. Newman, Board President Glenn Dickie, Board Vice President Al Guerra, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Bobbi Burkett, Executive Assistant Mary Ann Alvarez and AES principal Mr. Wall delivered the surprise announcement with flowers as the school day was just getting under way.
Her students erupted in cheers and tears of joy flowed from Lynette, who was clearly surprised by the honor. Lynette who has been teaching in the Alpine Union School District for 21 years is well loved by her peers, students and parents. Over those years she has taught 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades, but says that nothing compares to the personalities that emerge at the 3rd grade level. She firmly believes that the education of children stems from a strong relationship between the home, school and community and that communication and cooperation are extremely important.
Her peers describe her as a true leader that sees the genius in every kid and empowers them to be in charge of their own learning. Lynette works passionately to be a Seven Habits role model for her students and school. She is willing to take risks, but not without considering all points of view. Her head is always exploding with creative ideas and she is continually pushing her colleagues to think outside the box. She lives her life with passion and determination and inspires her students and peers to always be their best. Congratulations Lynette for a well deserved honor.
As part of the journey to become The Destination District of the East County, Lynette will be representing the District at the County Level competition to determine who will be the San Diego County Teacher of the Year. She is part of a dedicated team that includes teachers, administrators and support staff who put students first and elevate academic experiences for our students, while creating a climate a culture that is student centered.
Each school also selected a Teacher of the Year Candidate who bring excellence to their schools each day, and have earned the recognition so richly deserved from their colleagues. The school site Teacher of the Year candidates are:
