Hole-in-the-Wall Gang to kick-off June 4th History Day Celebration
The legendary “Hole in the Wall Gang” is headlining the Alpine History Day Celebration on June 4 at the John DeWitt Museum located at 2116 Tavern Road in Alpine. This highly entertaining group of cowboys was formed in 1947 and has performed their historical, equestrian, and comedy skits at more events than you can count all over San Diego County and beyond. They will take the stage at 11:30 a.m. to perform their “Bad Guys and Butterflies” routine which includes firing blank rounds during a staged “quick-draw” gunslinger contest. Be sure to arrive early to get a seat in the shade, then stay for lunch featuring the best burgers and hot dogs this side of the Great Divide, offered at a great price by the Alpine Kiwanis Cook Shack (all proceeds go to support Kiwanis programs). And don’t forget to top off your lunch with our famous ice cream sundae.
Also featured at this year’s event will be a display of Quilts from the Civil War era, Birds of Prey, Honey Production, the restored Walker Buggy, and Model T Fords. The Alpine Fire Department will show off their Engine #17 and the Alpine Fire Safe Council will answer all your questions about protecting your home and family from fire. You can also have your photo taken by a real “tin type” photographer, visit with a seamstress demonstrating how to sew on an antique treadle sewing machine, meet Grady Grammer dressed in his Confederate Uniform and learn about his collection of Civil War Memorabilia on exhibit in the Beaty House, and explore our new Wildlife Habitat Garden Exhibit.
Best of all: admission is FREE, and entitles you to a door prize ticket when you register at the entrance tent. But, remember this is a fund raising event for your Alpine History Museum. Donations will be gratefully accepted throughout the event.
Parking is limited, but the good folks at the Alpine Lutheran Church have offered their parking lot located at 2040 Tavern Road. Alternates include parking at Boulder Oaks School, Joan McQueen School or you can search for street parking along Tavern Road.
