Thought for the Week: In Praise of Fathers

The celebration of Father’s Day this Sunday comes in many forms with various activities. Primarily it is a day to honor our own father and all fathers that give their love, strength, and guidance to children everywhere.

Whenever I think of fathers, I picture a child on a two-wheeled bicycle for the first time. I see their father’s guiding hand on the back of the seat as the child takes those first few strokes of the peddles. It’s a wobbly situation to say the least. But the father runs alongside the child until, as the child gains momentum and confidence, the father’s hand gently slips away and he watches with pride his child’s success.

Jesus taught us to pray by saying “Our Father”, letting us know we are all children of a loving, guiding father whose will for us is nothing but good. Open your hearts and minds to be receptive to your Father’s will for you. Be steadfast in recognizing the Father’s strength and love is within you at all times. Then when challenges or unforeseen opportunities come forth, welcome them knowing “He that is within me is greater than anything in the outer.”

Be especially aware and attentive this week toward those men in your life who play the role of mentor. Send love and blessings to them that they may be divinely guided by a loving, wise God so that they in turn bring forth the very best in those whom they lead and guide.

Say with me: “I send a silent blessing to fathers everywhere. Let their hearts and minds be diligent and resourceful in expressing their love in the highest and best of ways. Thank you, God, for your ever-present guidance helping me navigate through life’s many challenges.
