Faster, stronger, higher – spring track and field season is underway

East County athletes are well represented among the season’s early track and field leaders in the San Diego Section. In fact, several already appear to be contending for state qualifying berths.

On the boys side:

Helix Charter’s Anthony Gash ranks first in the shot put (57- 9) and first in the discus throw (181-11).

El Capitan’s Jonathan Biffle ranks first in the 300-meter in­termediate hurdles (37.72) and second in the 110-meter high hurdles (14.20).

Helix Charter’s Shon Martin ranks first in the 110-meter high hurdles (13.84), tied for second in the high jump (6-6), third in the 300-meter interme­diate hurdles (37.93) and tied for third in the long jump (22-8).

Helix Charter’s Spencer Gray ranks first in the 200-meter dash (21.88) and second in the 400-meter dash (49.25).

Mt. Miguel’s Garrett Cloyd ranks second in the mile run (4:28.49) and sixth in the 800-meter run (1:57.84).

Mt. Miguel’s Vincent Jones ranks third in the 400-meter dash (49.26) and ninth in the 200-meter dash (22.53).

West Hills’ Joshua Carson ranks fourth in the discus throw (150-10) while Valhalla’s Bran­don Doctor ranks in a tie for fourth in the high jump (6-4).

West Hills’ Daniel Vestemean ranks sixth in the mile (4:37.92).

El Capitan’s Aundrey Calvert ranks seventh in the 800-meter run (1:57.99) while Santana’s Mike Valenzuela ranks seventh in the 400-meter dash (50.11).

El Capitan’s Logan Henry ranks seventh in the long jump (22-1.25) while Helix’s Kevin Al­len III ranks eighth in the event (21-11).

Santana’s O’Neill Cruz ranks eighth in the 100-meter dash (10.95) while Grossmont’s Tristan Sotelo ranks 10th in the pole vault (14-6).

Steele Canyon’s Micah Senn ranks ninth in the 1600-meter run (4:24.64) while Steele Can­yon’s Javier Quiroga is tied for ninth in the shot put (46-10).

In relay events, Helix is third in the 4×100 in 43.03 while Santana is fourth in 43.04. El Capitan is third in the 4×400 in 3:23.87 while Helix is fourth in 3:24.30. Steele Canyon is sev­enth in the 4×400 in 3:27.79.

On the girls side:

Helix’s Tesa Liufau ranks sec­ond in the shot put (39-4) while Hailey Lauifi ranks third (39-1).

Steele Canyon’s Lillian Cook ranks second in the 100-meter hurdles (14.84) and third in both the 300-meter hurdles (45.85) and triple jump (36-3.75).

Steele Canyon’s Nicoletta Burkhardt ranks second in the 400-meter dash (56.03) and ninth in the 200-meter dash (25.42).

Steele Canyon’s Mya Wil­liams ranks in a tie for third in the high jump (5-2) while Steele Canyon’s Devyn Harper ranks fourth in the long jump (17-8) and sixth in the triple jump (35- 7.75).

Helix’s Lareigh Allen ranks fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.02), fourth in the 200-meter dash (24.88) and seventh in the 400-meter dash (57.97).

Steele Canyon’s Evie Allison ranks fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.31) while Gross­mont’s Gabrielle Thomas ranks fifth (15.37).

Helix’s Shani Ford ranks fourth in the discus throw (119- 4) and seventh in the shot put (37-11.5).

Helix’s Leilah Lauifi ranks fifth in the shot put (38-7) and fifth in the discus throw (118-5). Helix’s Tesa Liufau ranks sev­enth in the discus throw (113-2).

Steele Canyon’s Ily Barclay ranks fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.18) and seventh in the 200-meter dash (25.27).

Santana’s Harper Diaz ranks seventh in the 800-meter run (2:15.02) while Mt. Miguel’s Kanay’Jah Cook-Weaver ranks seventh in the triple jump (35- 3.5).

Helix’s Asia Broussard ranks eighth in the 100-meter dash (12.27) while Grossmont’s Evin McDowell ranks eighth in the long jump (17-5.5).

Helix’s Geneva Grigg ranks eighth in the 300-meter hurdles (47.63) while Valhalla’s Songoli Ekwosi ranks ninth (47.63). Liberty Charter’s Haley Svend­sen ranks 10th (47.89).

Helix’s Chanel Burton ranks tied for 10th in the 100-meter dash (12.32).

In relay events, Steele Can­yon ranks first in the 4×100 (47.73) while Helix is second (47.80). Steele Canyon ranks eighth in the 4×400 (4:06.16).

Helix (boys) and Steele Can­yon (girls) are defending Divi­sion I section champions.
