Granite Hills High School fielded 17 seniors on this year’s coed tennis team at both the varsity and junior varsity levels.
Makenzie Shoemaker, team captain, four years on the team, including three years on varsity, competed in No. 1 singles this season and was voted varsity most inspirational. She will be attending BYU Idaho.
Hailey Barton, also a team captain, four years on the team, including three years on varsity, played doubles all four years. She played No. 1 doubles for girls and No. 1 mixed doubles, voted varsity most inspirational. She won the league title in doubles in 2019. She will be attending flight school.
Sienna Hatfield, team captain, four years on the team, three years varsity, played doubles her first three years and played singles this year, voted varsity team comedian for girls. She will be attending Northern Arizona University.
Nick DeVaux, boys team captain, No. 1 doubles and No. 1 mixed doubles this year, four years on the team, three years on varsity, one year on junior varsity, voted team comedian for varsity for boys. He will be attending UC San Diego.
Larry Witt, boys team captain, four-year player, three years varsity and one year junior varsity, played doubles his other 3 years, played No. 3 singles this year. He will be attending Mesa College.
Ryley Gorence, four-year player, three years varsity, one year on junior varsity, played doubles all four years. He will be attending Cal State Long Beach.
Sara Cortes, three years on the team, one year on junior varsity, played doubles with the same partner for three years, two on varsity and one on JV, also played mixed doubles this year. She will be attending UCLA.
Cameron Arana, three years on the team, two years varsity, played doubles with the same partner while on varsity and played mixed doubles, voted varsity most inspirational boy. He will be attending UC Santa Barbara.
Fadi Alsamaani, three years on the team, two years varsity, played with the same partner for the two varsity years, voted varsity MVP. He will be attending Grossmont College.
Hayden Loarie, three years on the team, two years varsity, played doubles this season, played with the same partner in doubles, voted varsity best sportsmanship for boys. He will be attending UC Berkeley.
Ramses Lara, three years on the team, two years varsity, played doubles the first two years and played singles this year and also mixed doubles. He will be attending Grossmont College.
Elia Motu, three-year varsity, walk-on from football, made junior varsity as a first-year player but played enough varsity matches to letter in varsity, played singles, doubles and mixed doubles this season. He will be joining the Navy.
Sandra Ajja, junior varsity captain, three-year JV player, played singles and doubles this season, will be attending UCLA.
Revanda Feraj, two-year junior varsity player, JV doubles champion in 2019, played doubles with the
same partner, played doubles and mixed doubles this season, will be attending UC San Diego.
Marlyn Shaaia, two-year junior varsity player, JV doubles champion 2019, played with the same doubles partner both years, played doubles and mixed this season, will be attending UC San Diego.
Mariam Soule, two years on junior varsity, played singles and doubles this season, voted team comedian for JV, will be attending Cal State Long Beach.
Carson Ellison, one year on junior varsity, played singles and mixed this season, will be attending Grossmont/ Cuyamaca.
Cougar country
Steele Canyon High School emerged as this spring’s Grossmont Hills League coed tennis champion.
Team captain Ashley Hoffman earned first team all-league honors, the league sportsmanship trophy and team MVP award.
Alivia Childs and Gabriela Mark both earned first team all-league honors while Diana Arias was a second team all-league selection.
Kali Tran earned all-league honorable mention recognition while Dylan Shaw rounded out this year’s group of seniors.
