Kiwanis, kids fly kites in Alpine

On April 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Kiwanis Club of Alpine is hosting its annual Come Fly a Kite day at Boulder Oaks Elementary School. Kites for the event are being donated by Ace Hardware and there will be free hot dogs and soda for all participating kids from the Kiwanis’ cook shack. Kiwanis Club of Alpine President Steve Taylor said he is happy that the pandemic is easing and is ready to start all its events at full pace again.

“We provide every attendee a kite that they can take home,” he said. “It is for the local kids of Alpine. We try to get the word out as much as we can to all the local elementary schools, but if we get other folks coming up the hill, that would be fine too.”

Taylor said the event utilizes Kiwanis volunteers, and that the Key Club of Granite Hills High School do much of the “heavy lifting” with assembling and disassembling the kites.

“We have had as many as 250 attendees, so I am hoping that this year’s version will again exceed last year as we try to rebuild all of these events that we have held in prior years.”
