Library is the place to be in April

By Susan del Castillo

Spring is in full swing, and we have a fantastic lineup of events for all ages this month! From creative contests and environmental action to cultural celebrations and disaster preparedness, there’s something for everyone at the library.

Celebrate literacy and culture at our Día de los Niños Storytime on Thursday, April 10, at 10:30 a.m. This special event will feature engaging stories and fun activities to share the joy of reading. Costumes are encouraged—come dressed as your favorite character! Each child in attendance will receive a free book!

Calling all teen artists! Participate in our Teen Read & Art Contest by picking up a free copy of Peak by Roland Smith from the library or reading it on Libby (libbyapp.com). Create an original artwork inspired by the book. Submit your art April 10-12 to have it displayed at the Teen Art Show, open to the whole community, on Tuesday, April 15, from 3:30 – 5 p.m. Art show attendees will vote for their favorite pieces. The top two pieces will each win a $50 Visa gift card! Refreshments and free copies of Peak will also be available at the event!

Be prepared for any emergency by attending The 4 Phases of Disaster: The Resident’s Role workshop on Saturday, April 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn how to navigate the four phases of a disaster—Preparedness, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery. This informative session will be presented by experts from San Diego County Animal Services, Red Cross San Diego, County Fire/CAL FIRE San Diego, the San Diego County Sheriff ’s Department, and the San Diego County Office of Emergency Services. To register, call or text 619-857- 8050 or email Teresa.Greenhalgh@ sdcounty.ca.gov.

In honor of Earth Day, join the Creek to Bay Cleanup on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to noon. This event, hosted by I Love a Clean San Diego, is the largest Earth Week cleanup in San Diego County! Help make a difference by volunteering to defend our waterways from litter. To sign up, visit creektobay.org.
