Sanctuary fundraiser

A May 17 fundraiser at the Lions Tigers & Bears animal sanctuary will benefit animals such as Louie the lion.

Lions Tigers & Bears, a San Diego County-based accredited wildlife sanctuary, will host its annual “Wild in the Country” gala and fundraiser May 17 at its Alpine facility.

The event, scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., will feature a live and silent auction, live entertainment, gourmet food and drinks and opportunities to support the sanctuary’s mission through sponsorships and mobile bidding. Proceeds will benefit the safety and care efforts for more than 50 animals living in the sanctuary, including lions, tigers, bears and other species.

Founded in 2002 by animal advocate Bobbi Bank, Lions Tigers & Bears provide lifelong care for exotic animals that have been displaced, abused or neglected, many of them victims of the illegal wildlife trade or private ownership. Situated on 142 acres, the sanctuary focuses on rescue, rehabilitation and education about the dangers of keeping wild animals as pets or using them for entertainment.

Supporters unable to attend in person can participate through mobile bidding or by donating auction items, such as travel packages, artwork and goods. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

“Wild in the Country” is the sanctuary’s largest fundraiser of the year, with all proceeds supporting animal care, specialized habitats and public education programs.
