Shoes for foster youth

The Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors is recognizing the volunteer efforts of Alpine resident and PSAR member Jeff Campbell who is collecting new shoes, newborn to size 13 for foster children until Aug. 17.

Campbell said the new shoes will be donated to Promises2Kids, a nonprofit that supports the needs of foster children in partnership with A.B. and Jessie Polinsky Children’s Center, the county’s emergency shelter for children who can no longer remain at home as a result of abuse or neglect.

“Many foster parents have limited incomes,” said Campbell, a realtor since 1998 in a statement. “The cost of everything has gone up so much, which has created financial burdens on foster parents. Receiving new shoes for foster children is a small but important gesture to help the parents, bring smiles to the kids, raise awareness for the community and allow donors to feel grateful.”

A California native and San Diego County resident since 1975, Campbell has organized since 1998 a holiday food and toy drive that benefits several food pantries serving low-income residents in San Diego County. Campbell said his foster kids shoe collection is his first mid-year drive.

Campbell, a former PSAR president, said drop-off sites include more than 20 businesses in Alpine, La Mesa and San Diego. For location information, visit www.GiftBagDriveSanDiego. com.
