The preliminary hearing for an Alpine man accused of killing his girlfriend has been delayed until June 10.
The attorney for Paul Paraschak, 43, on March 7 asked for more time to prepare in the murder case involving the Feb. 23 death of Melanie Benitez, 27.
Benitez was found shot to death outside a white car that was parked in the driveway of a home in the 2800 block of Victoria Drive. A woman who lived there said she did not know the couple.
Paraschak waived his right to have a speedy hearing in El Cajon Superior Court. The hearing had been set for March 12. A readiness conference was set for May 8.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Paraschak as he was walking away from the scene and they found he was in possession of two firearms. Attorneys have not discussed the facts of the case in court.
Paraschak told a Fox 5 News reporter he was intoxicated at the time of his arrest and said he was innocent of the murder charge.
Paraschak has pleaded not guilty and remains in jail without bail.
