CHAMBER CHATTER: Lighting the Christmas tree, home tours, and more

The Lighting of Alpine’s Community Christmas Tree is returning to the foothills holi­days!

Everyone is welcome to at­tend the celebration of the season from 6-7 p.m. on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Alpine Woman’s Club. It’s the historic Alpine Town Hall at 2156 Alpine Blvd.

Brenden Prout of the Alpine Christian Fellowship will pro­vide live music at the event,     pre­sented by the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce.

As part of the festive season, the Chamber’s 2018 Best Holi­day Decorations & Lighting Contest started Nov. 1. There are prizes for the top three win­ners.

Anyone with buildings or property on Alpine Boulevard, Arnold Way or Tavern Road is eligible to compete. Judg­ing will be done the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 5. The winners will be announced on Friday, Dec. 7, at the Chamber’s annual Snow Festival.

More than 90 entries have registered so far to be in the Chamber’s 23rd Annual Alpine Village Christmas Parade of Lights on Dec. 7!

The parade down Alpine Boulevard from West Victoria Drive starts at 6:30 p.m. It ends near the Snow Festival in the Alpine Creek Town Center at 1347 Tavern Road.

Chamber Christmas decora­tions, scheduled to come down on Jan. 15, 2019, are up on light poles now in the Alpine Boule­vard village area.

Another big holiday attrac­tion is the Alpine Woman’s Club’s Thirteenth Annual “Christmas in Alpine” Home Tour on Saturday, Dec. 15!

Visit five beautifully deco­rated area homes as well as the organization’s clubhouse, Alpine’s Historic Town Hall at 2156 Alpine Blvd. The charm­ing building will be decorated and open from 1 to 4 p.m. that day for ticket holders to enjoy light refreshments.

Tickets are $30 before the tour and $35 at the Alpine Woman’s Club on tour day. Raffle tickets are $5 each or six for $20. There’s an opportunity drawing for a $500 cash prize!

Proceeds benefit the club’s Scholarship, Preservation and Education Foundation. The club has given over $136,000 in scholarships to local graduating seniors. ­

Help others by donating blood on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Alpine Community Blood Drive!

The Kiwanis Club of Alpine holds the quarterly event from 8 a.m.-1:15 p.m. at the Alpine Woman’s Club at 2156 Alpine Blvd.

The San Diego Blood Bank and the Alpine Woman’s Club also participate.

“We do it every three months,” said Kiwanian Jim Cate. “We’ve helped a lot of people with this going on about 18 years. The record was 92. Three blood­mobiles came down that time. There were a lot of people stop­ping and donating blood.”
