Falling into costume and character

Fall is in the air at Creekside Early Learning Center. Our annual costume parade is Thursday, Oct. 31. Students will show off their costumes around the campus shortly after the bell. It is an opportunity to celebrate school spirit and engage the school community.

Our dual-language students are looking forward to participating in activities to learn the traditions of Dia de los Muertos, including a field trip to Sherman Heights Community Center. During the field trip, they do various activities including an art project. A community volunteer teaches the students about the significance of altar items. Teachers follow up and support learning about the cultural traditions in the classroom.

Mrs. Nash’s preschool class is scheduled to visit Oma’s Pumpkin Patch, and our kindergarten classrooms participate in pumpkin science investigations during the month of October.

Alpine firefighters visit us every October for Fire Prevention Week. Teachers reinforce the importance of fire safety throughout the week with mini-lessons, crafts and videos.

The Wheel of Experts, funded by the Alpine Education Foundation, is in full swing. Students enjoy STEAM lessons on robotics, aquaponics, gardening and music.

We are so thankful and thrilled to have the ongoing support of AEF. In addition to AEF sponsoring the Wheel of Experts, they recently awarded our teachers grants to purchase hands-on materials for TK, STEAM materials for kindergarten, and more Chromebooks. Thank you to AEF for your generosity.

Parent-teacher conferences are coming up the week of Nov. 18. Parents will have the opportunity to learn more about their student’s progress, go over the report cards and celebrate academic growth.

We are so appreciative of the support we receive from our families, the community, AEF and our amazing PTA. Creekside is the place to be.

Do you know a student eligible for early admission kindergarten? Registration for EAK opened Oct. 1 but it’s not too late. An EAK informational meeting will be held on Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.

If you know a student with a birthday between Dec. 2 and Jan. 31, please tell their family about Creekside Early Learning Center. For more information call the office at 619-659-8250.
