Many have asked The Alpine Sun if we have heard anything about the County’s decision regarding the 7/Eleven issue and the Type 21 Liquor License that was to be issued. At the last Alpine Community Planning Group meeting, their was a motion to appeal the County’s decision to transfer a Type 21 Liquor License to be used by the incoming 7/Eleven business slated to be the anchor store at the new Victoria Village business park. The vote to appeal that decision was 10 yes, 0 no, 2 abstentions, and 2 absent.

Because this issue has gone to appeal, The Alpine Sun asked the County of San Diego some questions and these are the answers that were returned.:
1. Can you clarify the appeal for the Type 21 license for the 7/11 in Alpine CA?
a. I’ve attached a copy of two items, the actual Appeal application that the Community Planning Group filled out, and a letter from its chairman, Greg Fox, to the Planning Commission simply stating that it will appeal the determination of public convenience. The application contains the request and the justification for the appeal, as explained by Mr. Fox.
2. Also, can you give me the time frame for this appeal, and when we might hear about the outcome?
a. The Appeal is scheduled to be heard in public by the Planning Commission at its regularly-scheduled Oct. 19 meeting. They are expected to make a decision on the Appeal that day, however, it is always technically possible for the issue and/or decision to be continued.
The justification for the appeal to the Type 21 license was stated that: “It has been determined through Community feedback that transferring another liquor license, whether by issuance of a new license of transfer into our Village Core will be a detriment to those that live and work in close proximity. It will also affect our new Form Based Planning which is being established for our Village Core by the County and will affect our overall Community Character. Currently those living and working in close proximity deal with urination, defecation, vandalism, vehicle accidents, etc. In closing, we believe that the crime statistics provided by our local Sheriff are flawed for the Village Core of Alpine and should be revisited.”
Chairman Fox’s letter reiterated that the Alpine Community Planning Group recommends that the Type 21 Liquor License not be issued to 7/Eleven.
