District appoints new principal

Christina Terrones

Grossmont Union High School District Governing Board appointed Christina Terrones as the next principal of Mount Miguel High School in Spring Valley at its Sept. 12 board meeting. Terrones succeeds Jake Gaier, who was named Director 1 of the GUHSD College and Career Readiness Department in July. Terrones began her new role immediately.

Gaeir described Terrones as a person of “remarkable intellect” who is “deeply committed to student-centered instruction” in a press release.

“Her passion for student success is evident in every decision she makes as she consistently prioritizes their well-being and academic achievement above all else,” he said.

Terrones has served as assistant principal at Mount Miguel High School since 2021. Her nearly 20-year career in education started at the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District as an Education Specialist, which is a teacher who specializes in providing instruction and services to students with disabilities. She then taught English in Acapulco, Mexico, for two years before moving to the Fontana School District as an Education Specialist. In 2010, she joined GUHSD as an Education Specialist at GUHSD’s Monte Vista High School where she would later serve as department chair. After serving in the Special Education Department at the GUHSD District Office, she joined the Mount Miguel administration team as an assistant principal.

“Ms. Terrones is an outstanding educator with a proven track record of building high-quality educational programs that support all students, including students with disabilities and English Learners,” stated GUHSD Superintendent Mike Fowler. “Her vast experience and leadership skills and have prepared her well to carry forward the transformational work that is underway at Mount Miguel High School.”
