Thought for the Week: Planting seeds

As we start a new month with fall in the air, the theme will be “Bringing in the Harvest” and this week’s message is “Planting Seeds.” I’m sure we’re all familiar with the planting and harvesting process in life. We all know that if we want to receive a crop of corn, we’d best plant corn seeds. What we are planting and harvesting in our lives mirrors this same process, just not as obvious to most of us.

Galatians 5:22 reads: “But the fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, self control, there is no law against these. Let us therefore live in the Spirit and surrender to the Spirit.” The Spirit that is living and breathing us is the holiness of holy. It is the fairest of the fair. It is the alpha and omega. It is infinite and eternal. Why would we not want to live in and surrender to it? Wouldn’t we all want to harvest Its fruits of love, joy, peace, etc? Then we must be cognizant of planting ourselves in Its care and nature. Surrendering to the Spirit within is a moment-by- moment process. Having our ear and heart attuned to that still small voice beckoning us forward is not for the faint of heart. It takes a continual release of the old and the past to live and bring forth Spirit’s fruits.

Let’s start with the intention each day to plant seeds of kindness for self and others. Let’s plant seeds of compassion and caring. Let’s plant seeds of confidence and faith in our greater yet to be. Let’s hone our skills to continually improve and do our best at whatever project or process is before us, knowing that which is within me is greater than anything that is without.

Say with me: “My deepest intentions of living in and through the Spirit are now planted deep in my soul. My life reflects Its fruits as I sing Its praises and follow Its loving guidance and direction. I live in the now and am ever so grateful.”
