While an approximate 500,000 ballots remain outstanding countywide, enough votes were cast Nov. 8 to outline a picture of what Alpine’s community leadership will look like.

For now. In the race to sit on the Alpine Union School District Governing Board, where voters were asked to fill three of the five seats, familiar faces were leading.
Incumbent Al Guerra was top of the list of five contenders, with 2,486 votes, or 26.01 % of the vote, and fellow board member Glenn Dickie had 2,302 votes—24.08 %.
Rounding out the top three was current board member Eric Wray with 2,221 votes —23.24 %. In fourth place was Erika Simmons who collected 1,636 votes as of early Wednesday morning and Darlene Cossio had 913 votes supporting her, though they were not enough to lift her out of fifth place.
In the Alpine Fire Protection board race, Baron T. “Barry” Willis was the at the top of a five-person field with 2,872 votes. In second place was Bill F. Paskle with 1,838—21.67 %— and in third position was Chase Cromwell with 1,702 votes.
Rounding out the bottom two positions on the ballot were Thomas Girard, 1,284 votes and Garrett W. Hostetler and his 784 votes. The top three finishers are declared winners.
The San Diego County Registrar of Voters will update results periodically.
