On June 13, the Grossmont Union High School Governing Board confirmed Dr. Paul Dautremont as its next assistant superintendent of Educational Services at its June 11 board meeting, succeeding Mike Fowler who was recently named GUHSD’s next superintendent,
“As a graduate of El Capitan High School, the father of two GUHSD graduates, and a 31-year GUHSD educator, I am deeply committed to opening a path for every East County student to succeed,” Dautremont stated in a press release. “I am grateful for the trust that our Governing Board, Superintendent Kastan, and incoming- Superintendent Fowler have placed in me as we work to set a new standard for high-quality instruction and empower each of our students to build the best future.”
Dautremont will start his role on July 1, overseeing all aspects of the district’s educational program, including curriculum, assessment, career technical education, instructional practices, student support and discipline, special education, athletics, extracurricular programs, support principals and administrative teams at all GUHSD’s school and programs. “Dr. Dautremont’s qualifications, experience, and vast relationship network built over three decades of educational leadership give me great confidence that he is the right person at the right time to lead the GUHSD Educational Services Division,” stated incoming-Superintendent Fowler.
Dautremont currently serves as the Director of GUHSD’s College and Career Readiness Department. He began his career at El Cajon Valley High School as a student teacher in 1993 and went on to serve as a Social Science teacher, assistant principal, and principal at ECV. He then served as West Hills High School’s principal before taking on his current district leadership role. During the 2020-21 school year, Dautremont was appointed as interim assistant superintendent of Educational Services where he played a key role in GUHSD becoming one of the first public school districts in California to reopen for in-person instruction following pandemic-forced school closures.
“Thanks to Dr. Dautremont’s leadership, GUHSD students have more career technical education opportunities, high quality learning experiences, and post-secondary options available to them,” stated Board President Robert Shield. “His successful track record demonstrates his readiness to serve as Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.”
As the College and Career Readiness director, Dautremont championed the expansion of GUHSD’s Career Technical Education opportunities, which offer students hands-on experience in the career fields of tomorrow. And he has secured approximately $11 million in grant funding to support CTE programs.
Dautremont earned his Bachelor of Arts in History, Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction, and his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University.
