The perfect gift. . . kinda

During this season of gift giving, and trying to deliver (or have delivered) the perfect gift to a special someone that means the world to you, don’t forget to read the fine print.  Tuesday was my mom’s birthday, and unfortunately for me, Tuesday is a very busy day for me, and I am not able to travel down to La Mesa on that day.
I thought the perfect gift would be to have a beautiful flower arrangement delivered to her door, just to let her know that I hadn’t forgotten her birthday.

Since I am on the computer all day, I typed in Flowers.com, and found an arrangement that was happy, and said ‘birthday’ and not Christmas.  I made my order entered in my mom’s address and then waited because I knew that she was going to love it.  The rose blooms in the picture were every color other than red for Christmas. It was cheerful, and full and the clear vase was pretty. I was happy because I really thought it would be a nice surprise.
Now, the truth of it was that it was a nice surprise, but it wasn’t what I ordered, or exactly what I thought I ordered.  The arrangement in the picture was lovely, and what my mom got on her front door was a do-it-yourself flower arrangement, with two dozen roses in a box and two vases separately packaged.  When my mom called me, (I didn’t want to call her to wish her Happy Birthday until the ‘arrangement’ arrived) she was happy, and thanked me for the flowers. When she told me what she got, I was disappointed.  It wasn’t at all what I ordered.  Normally I frequent our local florists, and this was a big lesson to tell me, VISIT the local florist instead.
our local Alpine Florist, we have two, Artistic Florist and Earth Wind and Sea Florist. I have always been happy to go into one of these shops where I can always find what I’d looking for.  I found out a day late, that they can deliver arrangements to locals throughout San Diego County, or they can contact a florist in the area to deliver an arrangement.
I talked to Jamie at Artistic Florist and she said that she has contacts with FTD and can make sure that what a client orders is what the recipient will receive.  She cautions to read the fine print, because as she said, I found that in the delivery FAQ, it does clearly state that the recipient will receive the flowers boxed.  This incident I will chalk up to a learning experience, and for me, I will forever more, shop local for my floral needs. It is clearly the better way to go.
