Alpine Woman’s Club hosts Holiday Home Tour

The Alpine Woman’s Club is holding its 16th Annual Home Tour on Dec. 9, giving participants the opportunity to tour three beautiful Alpine homes, the historic Town Hall, The Alpine Historical Society Marketplace, a Christmas tree raffle and display. The home tour is on Dec. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

AWC Holiday Home Tour Chairperson Kathy Stewart said tickets can be purchased at the AWC website, Postal Annex and For the Love Gift Boutique. Proceeds from the tour benefit the Alpine Woman’s Club Scholarship, Preservation & Education Foundation. Established in 1914, the Alpine Woman’s Club’s mission of its Scholarship, Preservation and Education Foundation is to maintain the historic Town Hall built in 1899 and provides scholarships to Alpine’s graduating seniors. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 for the day of event.

“To start the tour, everyone comes to the Woman’s Club,” she said. “That is where they will pick up their program which will have the homes, description of the families, what they can see at the homes, along with a list of all our advertisers.”

Stewart said the club broke a record this year in advertising and that the program provides all the details for the self-guided tour.

“The hostesses that will punch their tickets at each site. They can visit each site at their own pace in any order,” she said. “If you want to stop for lunch if you can. That is a lot of fun with a group of people. We are going to have classic cars at the Historical Society. They are going to have the Ford Model A, T Club Cars, and other vintage cars there. So, there are many things for the husbands to see as well.”

The Alpine Historical Society has two historic museums. The Dr. Nichols House was built in 1896. Nichols was Alpine’s first medical doctor, and the sister of Carrie Foss, the matriarch on one Alpine’s pioneer families who came to Alpine in 1888. There is also the Adam and Carline Beaty House built in 1899, designed in the “I design” style common in the Tidewater South of the U.S. prior to 1930. Adam Beaty built the farmhouse with his own hands.

“The Historical Society is going to be decorated in 19th century Christmas decorations,” said Stewart. “It will be very different than any other home on the tour. It will be historical, accurate to the time. The two homes are important for people all over San Diego County.”

Stewart said the three homes on the tour, one is a huge ranch with two homes participants can tour. There will be a putting green. And the property will have race cars on display.

“Another home on the tour, every square inch of this home will be decorated for Christmas, inside and out,” she said. “The decorations are elaborate, beautiful. It is amazing. She decorates her home like this every year. The third home is up in Crown Hills and is a beautiful home as well. She will have her home decorated top to bottom. On the porch she has an antique sleigh and Santa will be in the sleigh.”

Stewart said at the Woman’s Club it is holding its Holiday Marketplace and Christmas Tree Spectacular.

“For the marketplace, all of our members have donated handmade items that we are selling,” she said. “Then we are doing a Christmas tree raffle. There are 20 uniquely decorated trees throughout the club. Entries are $5 for one ticket and $20 for six tickets. There is going to be a Harry Potter tree, a Mario tree, and a Candyland tree. Beautifully decorated trees. The trees are included, so when they win, they get the tree, as well as the decorations.”

Stewart said the tour is for all ages. She said small children should be handheld or carried. No large bags, purses, backpacks, photos, or cameras are allowed in homes.
