The Mountain Empire Board of Trustees is looking for a representative to Area 4.
The seat became vacant after former board member Stu Smith resigned.
According to the Mountain Empire School District, the board will make a provisional appointment for an individual to complete the last year of a four-year term that expires in December 2026.
In November next year voters will be asked to choose a candidate to fill the regular four-year term.
To be eligible to serve on the Board, a candidate must:
- Be at least 18 years of age;
- Be a citizen of the State of California;
- Be a resident of Trustee Area 4;
- Be a registered voter;
- Not be legally disqualified from holding civil office
Deadline to apply is 4 p.m.Aug.5. Applications must be submitted to the District Superintendent’s office. Applications will be screened for completeness and verified for residency. Incomplete applications will not be considered, the district said.
All applications may be reviewed by the Board, with one or more applicants interviewed by the Board of Trustees at a regular meeting on August 12, 2025, at 6 p.m., at the Mountain Empire District Office.
