On the morning of Thursday, May 15, community members and veterans gathered at VFW Post 9327 in Santee for a Military Appreciation Breakfast hosted by Supervisor Joel Anderson and the Veterans East County Alliance (VECA). The annual breakfast hosted by
Supervisor Anderson served as an opportunity to recognize the contributions of active-duty service members, veterans, and their families in a welcoming, community-focused setting. Supervisor Anderson opened the morning by emphasizing the importance of honoring military servicemembers and their families by expressing our gratitude through meaningful community engagement. “Our veterans and service members have sacrificed so much while serving our country,” Supervisor Anderson said. “Events like these are an important way to say thank you and to show them that their service is deeply appreciated.”
In a special moment during the program, Supervisor Anderson presented a proclamation to VECA in recognition of their continued advocacy for veterans in our communities. Certificates of Recognition from Supervisor Anderson were also presented to attendees in appreciation of their military service. Among the notable guests in attendance were VECA Chair Susan Roberts-Egley and VFW District 1 Commander and 20-year U.S. Navy veteran Wendy Calderon. The breakfast provided a relaxing setting for veterans to connect with each other, share stories, while learning more about programs and resources tailored to their needs. Supervisor Anderson’s district staff were on-site and available to assist with County services by speaking directly with attendees about issues that were most important to them.
Thanks to the leadership of VECA and the generous hospitality of VFW Post 9327, the morning was a great celebration of our community’s military veterans and families.
