Founder Jeff Campbell of San Diego Estates is now collecting new clothing, food and children’s goods. Simply fill one or more gift bags by Dec. 15 and request a free pickup.
Drop off bins are also available in Alpine at Albertsons, Chase Bank, the Biker Shack, Postal
Annex of Alpine, Renee’s Uptown Salon, Edward Jones Investments, Ace Hardware, The Alpine Sun, Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce, Seek + Gather, San Diego Estates and Jeff Campbell & Associates.
“We’re excited about our new partner this year, EDCO,” said Campbell, who is also Chairman of the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber Ambassadors.
Non-perishable food items, new clothing, disposable diapers, personal hygiene items and children’s videos, new blankets, backpacks, children’s toys and art supplies are requested.
Food items are delivered to local churches and community centers, according to Campbell. Diapers and other childcare items are given to the Polinsky Children’s Center in San Diego.
Over the years, the drive has donated $10,000 to community organizations, including the East County Boys & Girls Club, Salvation Army, Alpine Kiwanis Club and a military families’ program.
Hundreds of unpaid volunteers have helped pass out more than 110,000 donation bags door-to-door, according to Campbell.
“I’ll never forget the lady who had nothing, and she filled a bag,” he said. “That bag was filled with wire hangers for children’s clothing so their clothes could be hung up.”
