Thought for the Week: Free

We are always at choice as to how we see life. This week we celebrate America’s birthday when we became liberated and free to be independent from the rule of our “mother country”. Over the years we have grown and matured, like any new being does. Many people complain about the politics of the day and of course that is their prerogative. I would suggest, however, that instead of looking to what is “wrong” with our country, we turn the other cheek and look in the direction to which we aspire. There are many good things happening in this land we call America. Why not focus our attention on that?
Our church is starting a new campaign called “A Complaint Free World”, based on the book by Will Bowen. A complaint, per Will Bowen is “to express grief, pain or discontent”. Complaining and seeing what is wrong and negative only be¬gets more of the same. Remember how vitally important it is to be aware of the words that immediately follow “I Am”? When we say “I am disgusted with….”, the Universe responds by giving us more of the same.
How much lighter, joyous and freeing life would be if we focus on what we want and not on what we don’t want! Be aware of the words that come forth from your mouth this week. Make a vow and commitment to utter positive, uplifting, grateful words. I know, it’s not an easy task – especially if you are a habitual complainer. Perhaps enlist your friends and family in helping to gently remind you when you have slipped back into a complaint. For uttering a complaint is like bad breath – you don’t know it but the people around you do. Be willing to recognize and move beyond the negative.
Say with me: “I am ready to be set free of complaining. I am living a joyous life and am ready to express the positive right here and now!”

  1. Reverend Gay, thank you very much for spreading the Complaint Free message. People give me credit for this movement – – they are wrong.

It has spread because of thousands of churches like yours.

Thank you for the positive impact you are having on the lives of many and in the consciousness of our world.
