ALPINE —- The first “Backroom Beer Pairing” benefit at Baron’s Market in Alpine raised $680 for the San Diego Food Bank!
Almost 70 people enjoyed various flavors of Garage Brewing Company beers and Baron’s barbecue bites during the evening on July 1 at the store. It’s in the Alpine Creek Town Center at 1347 Tavern Road.
“We’re going to have beer pairings up to four times a year,” said Bob Ring, Alpine Barons manager.  “And we sell all the beers and food served at the beer pairing right here in the store all the time.”
It was the first time Barons Market held the event at all five of its Southern California locations. The Alpine, Temecula, Wildomar, Rancho Bernardo and Point Loma markets raised a total of $3,000 in just two hours for the San Diego Food Bank, according to Barons.
Barons and the Alpine Creek Town Center are members of the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce.
Alpine Chamber members as well as area residents and visitors relaxed and chatted as they tried out different brews with barbecue on the patio, a decorated loading dock. Twinkling red, white and blue lights added to the cheerful pre-4th of July atmosphere.
“I just had a pulled pork sandwich,” said Susan Barker, president of the Alpine Woman’s Club and a Chamber Ambassador.  “It’s delicious.”
Chamber Director Joseph Perricone of The Canvas Makers pronounced his beer and slider pairing “excellent.”
Barons has scheduled another Backroom Beer Pairing Date for Wednesday, Sept. 30.
