A family’s outreach for a soothing balm after tragedy strikes is often unsatisfied.  Last year, the August family faced a devastation that  many families have had to face when an intoxicated individual climbs into their vehicle with the dilusion of sufficient ability to drive. Instead, in the anguish of loss, the August family reached out to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and hosted a benefit, ‘for the love of Angela’, their daughter who was killed last year by an allegedly intoxicated driver, Sunny Hall. Jimmy Arrevalo was also killed in the accident.
Angela would have been turning 26 years old this month, but instead of celebrating her birthday, her family celebrated her memory with a “fun-raiser” at the Alpine Woman’s Club, held on Sunday, April 14.  Dawn August, Angela’s mother, said that her family wanted to raise money for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, because of all the support that they have given her through the many months of trials and hardship that her family has faced.  Every time Dawn August attends a hearing regarding the tragic accident, a MADD member is right by her side.
August said, “I wanted to do something positive, after what happened to our daughter.”
The call for this ‘fun-raiser’ went out months ago, in the form of notifications that it was to be held this month.  Fliers and advertisements have been circulating through out Alpine, calling the Alpine community to lend a hand and come together ‘for the love of Angela’, and Alpine responded.  Businesses and community members donated items and services to benefit the ‘fun-raiser’.
