Schools throughout the Mountain Empire Unified School District will observe Abraham Lincoln’s birthday and President’s Day Feb. 13 and 16 respectively.
Schools within the district include Campo Elementary, Clover Flat Elementary, Descanso Elementary, Early Childhood Education, Mountain Empire Alternative Education, Mountain Empire HIgh School, Mountain Empire Junior High School, and Portrero Elementary.
Classes will resume Feb. 17.

The San Diego County Sheriff ’s ASTREA team and members of CAL FIRE San Diego collaborated to rescue a man who injured himself in the back country.
Authorities said on Jan. 18 rescue crews responded to a medical emergency in Corral Canyon near Pine Valley.
A 53-year-old man was reported to have fallen off a steep trail while riding a motorcycle and was exhibiting signs of a head injury.
Because of the difficult terrain medical crews had to deploy a helicopter hoist to rescue the man.
