Fugitive guilty of arson

A Boulevard arsonist who jumped bail a year ago pleaded guilty Monday to arson and faces up to 14 years in state prison.

A warrant for the arrest of Anthony Ramon Saldana, 31, was first issued March 16, 2018, but he was not apprehended until March 29, 2019, by immigration and customs agents.

Deputy District Attorney Will LaFond said Saldana agreed to settle his case with a guilty plea to arson and he also admitted going to prison twice before on other offenses. Court records say he has previously been convicted of two drug offenses, burglary, and felony assault. Saldana will be sentenced on June 4 in El Cajon Superior Court.

Saldana had been ordered to stand trial for arson in a June 14, 2017, incident. According to testimony, he set fire to a mobile home on private property on Crestwood Road in Boulevard.

Saldana had been free on $100,000 bond last year, but failed to show up in court for setting of a trial date. He now is in the George Bailey Detention Facility without bail.
