Historic homes opening in time for the holidays

The community of Alpine looks forward to this holiday season every year. When the houses light up, the community comes together to celebrate. According to Jessie Weeks, publicity chair for the Alpine Woman’s Club, the organization proudly invites families to enjoy the 18th Annual Holiday Home Tour to benefit the Scholarship, Preservation, and Education Foundation. This cherished occasion features holiday-decorated homes throughout Alpine, including a visit to the Alpine Historical Society to explore the community’s history.

“The members and volunteers bring this event to life. From making bows to checking tickets, Janie Stewart, our chair of the event, has built an incredible team of members. We are all in great gratitude for their crafting an experience to inspire the community in connection, kindness, and tradition,” she said.

She added that this year’s tour offers several special highlights: “Two of the homes are nestled in Palo Verde Ranch, a serene community of Alpine, California, neighboring the Cleveland National Forest in San Diego County.”

Visitors can expect new additions and popular returning features, she said, “Special events would include the Holiday Marketplace, located at the Alpine Town Hall, filled with handmade, donated gifts. In addition, there will be a special visit to the Alpine Historical and Conservation Society. The John DeWitt Museum will have its third annual open house featuring vintage holiday decorations from Alpine’s past.”

Each year, the tour begins at the nostalgic landmark of the Alpine Town Hall, which has been home to the club since 1914. The founding women, along with generations of legacy keepers, built a club rooted in community support and service.

According to Weeks, “The community loves this tradition, showing us with their returning participation in each annual event. As it continues to grow, it allows the Alpine Woman’s Club to continue its philanthropy.”

The Holiday Home Tour directly supports the Scholarship, Preservation, and Education Foundation.

“The Alpine Woman’s Club has helped students pursue their educational goals, awarding more than $176,000 over the years,” Weeks said. “Additionally, the Town Hall is in beautiful condition at the center of town. The home tour is one of the many events that are held to support the mission.” The Holiday Marketplace continues to be a favorite stop along the tour, so you don’t want to miss it.

“Our marketplace items are all handmade and donated by our Alpine Woman’s Club members. The holiday marketplace is a perfect spot to pick up unique hand-crafted holiday gifts,” Weeks said.

The Alpine Woman’s Club Annual Holiday Home Tour will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are required and may be purchased at Postal Annex, 2710 Alpine Blvd. K, Alpine, and For the Love Gift Boutique, 2530 Alpine Blvd. Ste. E, Alpine. Tickets are also available at Alpinewimansclub. org and at the door of the Alpine Town Hall on the day of the event.

Weeks added that the Alpine Woman’s Club wishes the community joy, cheer, and warmth this holiday season. For more information, contact Janie Stewart at (619)379-0393 or stewart.janie58@gmail.com.
