Library brims with seasonal fun

By Susan del Castillo

Happy holidays to you and yours! We hope you will celebrate the season with us at these upcoming fun events.

Sustainable Saturday with I Love a Clean San Diego is tomorrow from 9 a.m. until noon! There are several ways to participate. You can volunteer to clean up Alpine. Arrive at 9 a.m., grab supplies, and help to protect the San Diego River Watershed. You can take part in our Clothing Swap. Bring gently used clothing to exchange for new-to-you items! You can bring an old glass jar or container with you, and create a DIY holiday gift! Learn more at cleansd.org/events.

Our annual Winterfest, sponsored by the Alpine Library Friends Association, is Tuesday, December 5 from 4 – 6 p.m. This is a festive family event for all ages! You will find stories, crafts, a holiday classic movie, photo ops, live music, and refreshments. Here is the program:

1 – 6 p.m. Alpine Library Friends Association Holiday Book Sale.

3 – 6 p.m. free gift-wrapping provided by Girl Scouts troop 5003.

4 – 4:30 p.m. local princesses share wintry stories and a craft with kids.

4:30 – 5 p.m. classic television special: ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.

5 – 5:45 p.m. California Note Catchers: A women’s a cappella chorus performing 4-part harmony in the barbershop style. Come sing along!

Come craft with us on Friday, December 15 at 3:30 p.m. We are making beautiful flower fairy ornaments that can decorate holiday gifts, wreaths, or trees. This program is for ages 13 and up. Register at the library or online at sdcl.org/alpine.

As the weather has cooled off, it is the perfect time of year to learn how to knit or crochet. Our Crafters’ Paradise group meets every Wednesday from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. They will teach you and provide free yarn! This is a wonderful opportunity to pick up a new skill that can busy the hands and relax the mind.

All library events are always free and open to the public. Open the attached events calendar for a complete schedule or visit sdcl.org/alpine.

See you at the library!
