Summer is heating up with exciting events at the library for all ages!
On Saturday, June 14, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., celebrate Worldwide Knit and Crochet in Public Day! Bring your knitting or crochet projects—or come learn something new with our free lessons and free yarn. Enter our opportunity drawing, starting June 1 in the ALFA bookstore, for a chance to win fun creative prizes. The drawing will be held at 12:30 p.m. during the event.
Also on Saturday, June 14, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., join us for Live Costa Rica Birdwatching, the world’s first live virtual birdwatching tour. Presented by Alejandro Cano Ospina and Enjoy Virtual Tours Costa Rica, this real-time, guided tour offers an immersive experience of birdwatching from stunning natural habitats—right from the comfort of the library!
Families are invited to a joyful morning with Claudia Lyra on Wednesday, June 18 at 10:30 a.m. This engaging program brings Brazilian children’s folktales to life through interactive storytelling, songs in Portuguese, and body percussion. It’s a dynamic cultural celebration for young audiences.
On Saturday, June 21, 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., adults can take part in our Mindful Based Stress Reduction Workshop, led by UCSD-certified teacher Laurie Hallihan. Based on the acclaimed 8-week MBSR course, this free one-day workshop will help you reconnect with your inner calm and strength. Please bring a sack lunch. Refrigeration is available. Registration is required at sdcl.org/alpine.
Children will dive into an underwater adventure with Hooray Miss Marae: “Under the Sea” on Wednesday, June 25, 10:30 a.m. Through original music, sing-alongs, puppet play, and movement activities, Miss Marae introduces ocean animals, mermaids, pirate ships, and more—all while promoting early childhood literacy and creativity.
And don’t forget to join our Summer Learning Challenge, running through Aug. 31. This all-ages program encourages reading, learning, and creating all summer long. Sign up at the library or visit sdcl.org/summer to get started!
