Placement hearing moved to March

Friday, March 6 is the new date for a placement hearing for a sexually violent predator in Jacumba Hot Springs, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

San Diego Superior Court Judge Jay Bloom was out on medical leave following surgery and was unable to hold the Feb. 3 for Michael James Poulsom, 60, who has petitioned for conditional release.

Bloom has driven past the house on Old Highway 80 where Liberty Healthcare has recommended that Poulsom will live with conditions. Bloom will be back for the March 6 hearing.

Poulsom has been convicted of child molestation in 1985, 1989, and in 1995. Poulsom was sentenced to 15 years in prison in 1995, and when his term was finished, a judge ruled he was a sexually violent predator(SVP).

Deputy District Attorney Nicole Roth has opposed his release. He is currently living in the Coalinga State Hospital where SVPs are sent after they finish their prison terms.

Residents can send letters about the placement to the SAFE Task Force at 9425 Chesapeake Drive, San Diego, Ca. 92123. The letters can be forwarded to a judge hearing the placement issue.
