The tension mulled as the racers lined up their Stock and Super Stock Soap Box Derby Racers along Alpine Boulevard on Saturday morning waiting for the chance to win the race.  This event was open to all 7 – 19 year olds and is an ongoing feature now in Alpine, in conjunction with the All American Soap Box Derby, and sponsored by the Alpine Kiwanis.

What a fun and exciting family activity to become a part of.  It all started in Akron Ohio, and built a following through the years to become the biggest gravity racing competition.
This activity allows children to understand, prototyping, critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and teamwork, as well as taste the excitement of creating a racer and racing it in completion.  There are whole curriculums built around the soapbox derby phenomenon.
This is the second year that Alpine has enjoyed this exciting event.  The children and family take great pride in their racers.  There are regulations of how the racers are painted, but each one promotes their sponsors.
This year Faith Fox became the champion of the race, and will represent Alpine in the All American Soap Box Derby Championship held in Akron, Ohio summer 2017
The next event in Alpine will be in October, 2017.  Please contact Greg Fox, 619-840-9400, or visit the Kiwanis website: www.alpinekiwanis.org/soapboxderby.
