Attic sales for scholars

Clothes, jewelry, collectibles, and buried treasures are coming to Alpine as the Alpine Woman’s Club is holding its eight annual Attic Treasures Fundraiser June 16-18 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The three day event is one of its three main fundraising events of the year with all proceeds going to fund scholarships for Alpine high school students and to restore the AWC’s historic Town Hall, said AWC publicity manager Kathy Stewart.

“This is our eight annual Attic Treasures sale, but we have been doing an event like this kind for over 10 years now,” she said. “It is a huge estate sale. Our members, families, and their friends bring in their no longer gently used items. Everything from clothing, housewares, anything that you can think of.”

Stewart said all its members come together to put make this fundraiser happen.

“We take over a week before the actual sale days to get the items in, get them sorted, priced, and displayed,” she said. “We encourage anyone from the public to come to our sale and 100% of proceeds benefit our Foundation’s Scholarship and Education fund. That is why we do this.

The fundraiser is put together by Attic Treasures Chair Susan Barker, and assistant chair Nancy Bender. Barker said this event started small and has grown significantly over the years.

“People look forward to coming in, spending the day picking through all the collectibles that are donated. We have lovely jewelry,” she said. “Members love to work on this. We all have a lot of fun doing this and that camaraderie is good for all of us.”

Stewart said the club is open to all East County women, simply by going to its website, calling its chair. “After they have come to two luncheons, we vote them in and they are members,” she said.

Alpine Woman’s Club is located at 2156 Alpine Boulevard. For more information visit alpinewomansclub.org.
