Dental treatments made available

Children 18 and under will receive complimentary dental screenings, fluoride treatments, and dental sealants at the El Cajon Family Health Center on Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is hosted by the San Diego County Dental Foundation as part of its Give Kids A Smile campaign, nationally launched in 2003 to provide underserved children with free oral health care, raise awareness of untreated dental disease, and the need for public and private partnerships in increase access to oral health care. The clinic is held in partnership with First 5 San Diego, San Diego County Health & Human Services Agency, and the American Dental Association.

San Diego County Dental Foundation Executive Director Angela Landsberg said that no referrals are necessary, and for appointments call (619) 906- 4515.

Landsberg said the foundation, a nonprofit founded in 1992, is the charitable arm of the San Diego County Dental Society and has provided access to dental healthcare and its goal is to ensure it increases awareness and access to oral healthcare.

“The Give Kids A Smile program is a national program,” she said. “We are implementing it locally. We work with local dental offices and federally qualified health centers to provide care during the months of February and March, and this is free to any child.”
