September begins with a chance to show thanks to some of our country’s eldest veterans. On Sept. 1, guests gathered after school to make cards and letters for veterans. They made cards and letters for Honor Flight San Diego veterans to receive during their “Mail Call” on their flight home from Washington, D.C. Interested parties can still stop by the library anytime through Saturday, Sept. 12 to make a card. All supplies will be ready for use, and staff will make sure messages are delivered.
On Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10:15 a.m. – 1:15 p.m., the library will host a Start Your Story Workshop with Living Proof Stories. In this workshop, you will learn simple storytelling tips, write with others, and share feedback. Living Proof Stories is a San Diego-born initiative that focuses on rebuilding human connection. Whether you have never written before or already write often, this workshop will help you put your story onto the page. We would love to have voices from Alpine, Campo, Descanso, Jacumba, Pine Valley, and Potrero represented. You can register at sdcl.org/alpine. The library will provide light refreshments, and you are welcome to bring your own snacks.
Did you know the library offers a free online high school diploma program? Library High School is open to San Diego County residents ages 19 and older. This accredited program is paid for by scholarships from the San Diego County Library, so there is no cost to students.
