On July 27, at approximately 2 p.m., a woman driving a blue 2013 Chevroet Malibu approached the I-8 checkpoint. As agents questioned her, a K-9 performed a sniff of her vehicle and alerted. The driver was referred to secondary inspection for further investigation.

Agents searched the car and discovered 39 plastic-wrapped packages inside the trunk in grocery containers. Testing positive for fentanyl, the packages weighed 13.12 pounds and have an estimated street value of $200,000.

The woman, a 28-year-old U.S. citizen, was placed under arrest. The narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and the vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.

San Diego sector has seized approximately 138 pounds of methamphetamine since Oct. 1, 2019.
