Alpine author writes of life songs

Alpine resident and author Joe Cabaniss has published a book of short stories, “Life Songs And Other Passages – San Diego Stories.”

Cabaniss said this is collection of fiction stories, but there is a lot of “him” in them.

“The stories at their core examine the lives of young men as they struggle to find their way toward manhood. Some of them explore how absent fathers — emotionally or literally —can be soul crushing for their sons, who long for guidance and approval. Others take readers on various adventures as the protagonists’ face coming of age in a difficult, changing and uncertain world,” he said. “Place plays a strong role in these stories, mostly set in San Diego, and readers may recognize neighborhoods and beaches where they lived and played. The stories unfold in the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s and older readers may find experiences similar to their own; younger ones will learn that even though times have changed the persistent questions about life, love and purpose remain.”

Cabaniss said some stories took longer to create in others, but he completed the 11 short stories in just over a year while writing part time in the early morning hours and in the evenings, as his wife was working from home all the time.

The book can be purchased on Amazon in paperback atwww. amazon.com/Life-Songs-Passages- Joe-Cabaniss/dp/B0D1WC8CK3.
