He met his wife Randa Adams who at the time lived on Alpine Heights. Her parents Al Adams and Renie Adams owned a turkey ranch. Barry and Randa had two daughters, Taunya and Sharlee.
Barry and his family lived at the McCall’s Ranch, where they were counselors helping and working at the school. Barry and Randa also worked at his families’ other school, Manzanita Ranch summer camp in Northern California.
Barry helped his mother
run the camp as a teacher, counselor and mentor to many children. While working
at these schools.
He also was a avid offroad racer. Racing in the Baja 500, Mint 400, Mexican 1000 and other races. Barry raced using his jeep with Magnificent 7 for many years. Even later after retiring from racing. His jeep was always a great passion for him. Weekend drives with his wife Randa, or taking the family to the desert.
In the mid 70’s living back in Alpine. Barry became a landscape contractor (Viejas Landscaping Inc.). Working in San Diego County and the Imperial Valley. Barry
loved working outside with plants and trees. Turning a plain dirt lot into a beautiful setting for a homeowner. Commercial landscaping and maintenance was also a huge part of his company. Another passion at this time for him was having his pilot license, and flying small planes. Involvement with the community was very important to him.
He was a member of the Alpine Kiwanis Club for years with his father in-law Al Adams. He also was a director of the Greater Mountain Empire Resource Conservation District. Barry loved the town of Alpine. Living in Alpine and the people that lived there meant a lot to him. Barry was a huge family man. He coached Bobby sox softball with his two daughters. He loved doing things with family, beach, river, vacationing, desert trips.
Or just barbecuing and swimming in there backyard. He was a loving husband of 48 years, and a loving father.
Barry lived the last 15 years of his life in Borrego Springs with his wife and mother in-law Renie Adams. He loved that small town feel. Going into town and stopping and talking to a half dozen people. A 5 minute trip to the store turning into a 2 hour trip. He was always just so friendly, loving to talk to people. It didn’t matter if he knew you for years or he just met you. For Barry it was like being in Alpine again with that small town feel. He loved the mountains in Borrego, Indian head. Driving or taking his friends quad out in the desert was something he loved to do. He liked to take his grandchildren and great grandchildren out on excursions in Borrego. Taking hikes, collecting rocks, riding bikes, anything that would have to do with nature. He also loved taking them to the community pool where they lived at. It was something the children looked forward to doing when they would go down to spend time with there grandparents.
