The Alpine Community Center and the Alpine Library coordinated efforts to bring the Navy Band Southwest’s 32nd Street Brass Band to the Alpine community center June 28. The band performed light jazz and popular songs on the green lawn below the library, part of the Summer Concert series for 2019.
While families picnicked on blankets and children danced around the lawn, the band entertained the crowd with standards that included solos by Bryan Parmann and Justin Malizia on trumpets, Timothy Hutchens and Christopher Birkby on trombones, Everett Cencich on saxophone and Connor Hailey on tuba. Thomas Auger was welcomed as the newest member and drummed for the first time with the band at the concert.
Wall of Honor organizer Dan Foster took the opportunity at intermission to thank all United States Veterans, as well as thank the sponsors of the concert series. The band closed the evening with Anchors Aweigh, the official Navy anthem since 1907.
