Thought for the Week: Peace on earth

“In the hustle, bustle of the season don’t forget the reason it’s here” is a line from one of my favorite Christmas songs. I also treasure the pin I was given many years ago by Bob McClellan that says “Jesus is the reason for the season”. We celebrate the birth of Jesus, the master teacher and savior of the world at Christmas. His birth was heralded by the angels saying: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace, good will toward men.” Luke 2:14.

Jesus taught many lessons in his brief ministry. One that was repeated time and again centered in the recognition of peace. “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27. “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of God”. Matt. 5:9.

We not only celebrate the event that occurred over 2000 years ago, but we celebrate the rebirth of the Christ consciousness in each of us at this holy time and the message of peace in our hearts is the true gift of the season. Be aware and alert these next few weeks to place an emphasis on having a peaceful heart. One person at a time radiating peace will bring peace to earth for all to experience.

A Course in Miracles teaches: “I could choose peace instead of this.” Peace is the substance that lies beneath all outer activities. We have the choice to choose it or not. We have the choice to place ourselves in the consciousness that Christ gave us – to live in peace and not be troubled or afraid. You will find this peace at the very core and center of your being – your heart.

Say with me: “I choose this day to follow the Christ by bringing the peace that is within me to all my activities. I remember with awe and reverence the reason for the season and pause to be truly grateful that the spirit of goodwill lives in me this day. I am truly blessed. And it is so.”
