Tiger loses leg

An effort to save a rescued tiger’s injured leg failed and the medical team caring for the animal decided to remove it.

“Unfortunately, Kallie’s procedure last month hasn’t healed as planned, and our team opted for an additional procedure … for our resilient Kallie. Our last option for saving her life was to amputate her leg, and the healing journey has already begun,” said Lions, Tigers & Bears animal sanctuary founder and director Bobbi Brink in a recent update.

In May the tiger had to have an unexpected surgery to repair a damaged front leg.

“She required a lot of care after years of abandonment and a long road trip to California. She suffers from arthritis in her feet because she was painfully declawed. She also recently fractured, or possibly re-fractured, a bone in her front leg,” Brink said in a previous interview.

Caretakers have been keeping a close eye on the tiger.

“Post-procedure, Kallie has been eating, sleeping, taking her medicine and even standing and turning around a couple times, which is the most we could have hoped for. We love our three-legged tiger Kallie and we will continue doing everything we can to give her the care she needs.”
