At its annual rewards luncheon, the Alpine Woman’s Club provided four students with $2,000 scholarships. For the first time, this year, one of the students will be attending a trade school/ vocational school versus a traditional four-year university. To date, the Woman’s Club has awarded more than $165,000 in scholarships to local students.
Carly Seiter graduated from Granite High School with honors.
“During my years of high school, I’ve spent my time juggling school, sports practices, church events, jobs, and time with my family,” Seiter wrote in her application letter. “I’ve worked hard towards straight A’s all four years. I am also a four-year varsity athlete on Granite Hills’ Swim team and a 3-year varsity Water Polo player. After graduation, I plan to further my education at Bellus Academy where I’ll study to receive a license in Advanced Cosmetology. My four years at Granite Hills High School has helped me establish a hard-working mindset and a never-giveup attitude. Being one of the Varsity Water Polo captains in the 2023-2024 school year, the president of a club on my school campus, and a student leader at my church has taught me how to be a leader and help others. These are the values I will continue to portray each day. My family has been residents of Alpine for years and I am incredibly honored to be a recipient of this scholarship.”
Carena Tanson also graduated from Granite Hills High School.
“During my four years at Granite Hills High School, I participated in three sports: tennis, water polo, and dive. I’ve spent four years on varsity water polo, one year varsity tennis, and competed varsity in several dive competitions. I’ve enjoyed showing my school spirit by attending football games, school dances, and participating in every spirit day that I could. Writing poetry, playing music on my guitar and spending time with my family, friends, and pets are a few of my hobbies I enjoy during my free time. My time spent at Granite Hills has taught me to have perseverance and that life is only as enjoyable as you make it. I will be graduating with honors and will be continuing my education at the University of California San Diego in the fall. I plan on majoring in economics and in the future attending law school to become a litigator. I am forever grateful to be a recipient of the Alpine Woman’s Club Scholarship,” she wrote.
Tyler Bertalan, 18, is also an Alpine resident.
“We moved to Alpine when I was in 3rd grade from Temecula,” he stated. “I have been playing sports my entire life. I started when I was 4 and haven’t missed a season of sports since. I’ve played baseball, lacrosse but my love has always been football. I started with flag and once we moved to San Diego my aunt signed me up to play with my cousins at Lakeside Vaqueros, where I played all the way through until it was time for high school. A big wrench was thrown my way when COVID shut down my freshman year of high school at Granite Hills. We missed all the exciting experiences of HS, The Eagles Swoop, Friday Night Lights, interacting with new kids and getting a regular school experience. On top of that we had to navigate distance learning which was a challenge for me. Once COVID restrictions were lifted we got the chance to return to normalcy and attend Granite Hills in person. School for me has always been a place where I can thrive. I love my friends, teachers and coaches, the only thing I didn’t love at Granite was Spanish class. I will Graduate next week with a 4.2 GPA, a State Championship ring in Baseball, a State Championship ring in Football, an Open Division Championship Ring and a plan for the future. I will leave on 7/31 for Gannon University in Erie Pennsylvania, where I will play football for the Gannon Ruskin’s and major in Criminal Justice/Prelaw. My roommate is picked, my mom has been ordering everything under the sun and I am ready to begin the next phase of my education. Thank you all for the opportunity to receive this scholarship.”
Taelynn Brown, 17, graduated from Christian High School.
“I am so thankful for the opportunity to receive the Alpine Woman’s Club Scholarship,” she said.
