The Alpine Fire Protection District is seeking a highly-motivated, community oriented individual for the position of Part time, Seasonal Weed
Abatement Inspector. Under the direction of the Fire Marshal, the Weed Abatement Inspector performs technical inspections to ensure
compliance with local, state and federal codes and related ordinances pertaining to the prevention and control of vegetation.
The Position
Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Under general supervision this part-time, seasonal, non-safety position will perform weed
abatement inspections at private residential parcels, vacant parcels and commercial parcels. Investigate complaints pertaining to violations of
fire prevention laws and ordinances. Issue written notices of weed abatement ordinance violations and require correction thereof. Issue burn
permits, manage a weed and hazard abatement program, inspect, post and issue weed abatement notices, re-inspect to determine compliance has
been achieved on all violations. Maintain records pertaining to inspections and actions taken. Prepare correspondence and written reports that
are concise, thorough and grammatically correct. Satisfactorily participate in and complete specialized courses, seminars and/or in service
training in order to maintain technical expertise as determined by the District. Operate telephone, radios, and office machines with proficiency;
utilize common computer software programs which include word processing, spreadsheets and database programs. Perform administrative
duties within Fire Prevention Bureau. This is an at-will, probationary position.
After initial training, the applicant must demonstrate and display knowledge of: Fire Prevention methods pertinent rules, laws and policies
related to area of assignment, safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to job related duties. Computer equipment as related to
assigned work. Proper use of the English language, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
The Selection Process
The selection process will consist of the following:
♦ All applications will be screened for minimum qualifications;
♦ Qualified candidates will be invited to an oral interview:
♦ Final candidate will be required to do the following:
1. Chief’s interview for final selection;
2. Background investigation requiring fingerprinting & Department of Justice clearance;
3. Physical including a drug screen.
The Requirements
The general requirements to apply for this position are:
♦ 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent;
♦ Class C California Driver’s License;
♦ Any combination of education and experience which would demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of this
classification. For example: College level courses in fire prevention, fire science, weed abatement experience or other
qualifications that demonstrated the ability to perform this classification.
♦ Physical Requirements
Applicants must possess the physical abilities to perform the following duties: Lift, carry, push and/or pull objects up to 25 lbs.
Stamina sufficient to work for long periods while maintaining concentration and decision making abilities. See in the normal
vision range with or without correction to read typical business documents and computer screens, Hear in the normal range with
or without correction. Remain standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time and occasionally walk long distances, climb up
and down hillsides or slopes, kneel, stoop or bend. Ability to work outside in inclement weather (rain, wind, humid and dry
conditions) where temperatures can exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit and drop to 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
Wages & Benefits
Position: At Will, Probationary, non safety
Wage: $12.50 – $15.00 per hour based on performance, experience and time of service to District.
Benefits: Seasonal Position with no benefits.
Hours: 19 hours per week

The Community
Alpine Fire Protection District was formed on December 19, 1957. Located in an unincorporated area of eastern San Diego
County. The District covers 27.5 square miles and services 16,700 residents.
The District
The Alpine Fire Protection District consists of 12 full-time firefighter positions including Firefighter Paramedic, Engineer, and
Captain. In addition the District employs a Fire Chief, Division Chief, Finance Officer and Fire Marshal. The District currently
operates one station with three Divisions of four personnel each. Daily staffing is one fire engine and Chief Duty Officer. The
one medic unit is provided under contract between AMR and the County of San Diego.
