Activities center for seniors opened in Alpine

San Diego PACE announced the grand opening of its Senior Activities Center in Alpine.

The East County Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Alpine Chamber of Commerce joined San Ysidro Health on May 29 to unveil its latest mobile health unit. In honor of Older Americans Month, San Diego PACE (Program for All- Inclusive Care for the Elderly), a division of San Ysidro Health announced the grand opening of its Senior Activities Center in Alpine, expanding multigenerational services providing care from pediatrics to geriatrics.

Through this latest mobile health unit San Ysidro Health is expanding it accessible healthcare in East County as the senior population grows. The Alpine Senior Activities Center will serve as a hub for San Diego PACE participants to engage in a wide range of activities and programs to promote physical, mental and social wellbeing by offering a diverse array of opportunities for PACE participants to remain active, connected, and empowered.

“At San Ysidro Health, we believe in providing comprehensive care for individuals and families across the lifespan,” said Kevin Mattson, president and CEO of San Ysidro Health in a press release. “The inauguration of multigenerational services, coupled with the introduction of our mobile unit, underscores our commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare that is accessible to all.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured remarks from local dignitaries, including representatives from San Ysidro Health, the East County Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the Alpine Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, attendees had the opportunity to tour the new Alpine Senior Activities Center and mobile health unit. During the event, Mr. Theodore Bazdorf, a prominent local Alpine community leader and former US Army member who served during the Korean War, was honored as the Senior Community Champion Award in celebration of Older Americans Month.

“The San Diego Regional East County Chamber of Commerce is excited for the ribbon cutting and open house of the Alpine Senior Activities Center which is part of the San Ysidro Health network,” said Rick Wilson, President and CEO of the San Diego Regional East County Chamber of Commerce. “Having a community partner like San Ysidro Health, who is also a great Chamber member, helps to positively impact the community by delivering resources to those in need. San Diego PACE serves more than 3,000 participants across San Diego County, with the expansion into Alpine demonstrating a commitment to reaching those in rural areas. The center supports local business owners and residents who care for aging parents while also managing their own families. San Diego PACE’s goal is to help seniors stay as safe and independent as possible within their communities, relieving some of the burden on local families. Alpine Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Lynn Meyer said the Chamber was “thrilled” to support the opening of the Center in Alpine.

“It will provide seniors in our communities the social interaction, activities, meals, etc., that they may not experience on their own. Supporting our older Americans is vital to their physical and emotional wellbeing. We are happy to partner with San Ysidro Health as they meet the needs of our community members,” she said.
