The Alpine Sheriff’s Patrol Station is looking to increase the size of its Senior Volunteer Patrol group. The staton would like to recruit new Patrol members, who would work a minimum of six hours each week in the Alpine, Crest, Blossom Valley, Dehesa, Harbison Canyon, Flynn Springs and Japatul area of East County.
Volunteers must be at least 60, a U.S. citizen or legal resident who has applied for citizenship, have a valid California driver’s license, automobile insurance, medical insurance and be of good moral character with no felony convictions.
Prospective volunteers must pass a complete background check, pass a two week Volunteer Patrol Academy course and be physically and emotionally able to perform the duties of the Senior Volunteers.
The volunteers take on tasks that include traffic control, patrolling business and community neighborhoods, checking on the homes of residents who are on vacation, checking on the welfare of seniors as part of the “You are not alone” program for at risk seniors, enforcing Handicap Parking Regulations, conduct Red Flag Fire Patrols and assist the station deputy’s and staff in a variety of duties.
For information on how to volunteer, call Chuck Sinclair with the Alpine Senior Volunteer Program at 619-659-2600 or 619-405-0750. Or, stop by the Alpine Sheriff Station at 2751 Alpine Blvd, to obtain and information packet.
This is a perfect opportunity to give back and be activity involved in your community.
