Are you handy with appliances, electronics, bicycles, or textiles? Do you like repairing things? Consider volunteering with the SD Fix-It Clinic! Join us for a volunteer recruitment event on Thursday, July 6 from 5 – 6:30 p.m., and then help Zero Waste San Diego put on a successful Fix-It Clinic at the library on August 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
We have three special programs for kids this month. Jurassic July on Wednesday, July 12 at 10:30 a.m. features fun dinosaur-themed stories and activities. On Saturday, July 22 at 11 a.m., local beekeeper, Marisa Graves, presents The Buzz about Bees to give kids a glimpse of life inside a beehive! On Thursday, July 27 at 10:30 a.m., a professional storyteller from Write Out Loud San Diego presents international folktales through the art of Kamishibai. Bring the whole family to enjoy these events!
Thank you for the great turnout for our first summer concert on June 17! Our next concert is Saturday, July 15 at 3 p.m. with Blue Creek Duo. Will Jaffe’s (dobro, guitar, banjo & vocals) mastery on stringed instruments has brought joy to audiences for nearly 50 years. Susan Thoen (bass & vocals) studied classical music, bluegrass, and honky tonk, and uses all this to bring out the best tone, tempo and feel of every tune. Together, they bring it all to the party! Music concerts are possible thanks to the generous financial support of the Alpine Library Friends Association.
We have a new book club for adults! The Quarterly Classics Book Club meets for the first time on Thursday, July 27 from 5 – 6 p.m. This club reads books that have withstood the test of time. Expect lively conversation about great books! The current selection is A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. Pick up a copy at the library.
