It will be a Happy Thanksgiving thanks to the Alpine Community Center, which will be providing traditional Thanksgiving dinners to seniors or those with a low income. The dinners will be delivered the morning of Thanksgiving, Nov. 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
“This is our 21st year of the program,” said Cindy Robertson, director of the Alpine Community Center, “This year we would welcome victims of the West Fire.”
Robertson noted they served just under 100 meals last year. This year they will be partnering with Albertsons’ Turkey Bucks program for the food donations and preparations. Every time a customer shops at the local Albertsons, they will have an opportunity to donate $1, $5, $10 or a custom amount of money, tax exempt, to buy provisions for these dinners. The monies collected will be used strictly for the Alpine community per Robertson.
“I loved the dressing and pie,” said Alpine resident, Barbara McPheron, 68, who has been the recipient of the program previously, “It’s a very good meal and they delivered it at 11 a.m.”
There is no charge for the holiday dinner.
“Last year we had 20 delivery drivers,” said Robertson. To volunteer as a driver, call the center. The program is for the residents of Alpine.
The deadline to be added to the current list is November 15th. Call the Alpine Community Center at 619-445-7330 to participate.
