Descanso, CA – Students from Descanso Elementary of Mountain Empire Unified School District (MEUSD) have a collection of over 50 pieces of artwork from all grade levels on display at Rady’s Children’s Hospital in San Diego, CA.
The students are participants in the Healing Arts Program developed to aid in the recovery and well-being of the many young patients receiving treatment at Rady’s.
The program includes music, visual art and storytelling as a way to take children’s minds off of treatments such as chemotherapy or surgery by creating an atmosphere of physical and emotional well-being to support their healing.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to reach out to others and share their talent,” says Principal Donna Burton. Descanso Elementary was one of only five schools in San Diego County to participate in the program.
Mountain Empire Unified School District covers 660 square miles of east San Diego County, a diverse rural community, offering a full range of educational, athletic, and vocational opportunities for its students including before and after school programs, homeschool, and Pre-K opportunities.
