By Susan del Castillo

Autumn is in the air, and we have many programs at the library to usher in the new season!

Monarch butterflies are making their annual migration to Mexico for the winter. Come to our Monarchs and Milkweed program on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. to learn how you can help them survive their long flight. Jon Green, Director of Alpine’s Community Wildlife Habitat program, will teach you ways to invite Monarchs and other pollinators to your yard.

Speaking of flight, the United States Naval Aviators are back for Flight School, After School. On Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m., the aviators will share information about aircraft, gear, operations, and missions.

Come meet flyers of the feathered kind at our Hawktober event on Friday, Oct. 13 at 3:30 p.m. This all-ages program presented by San Diego County Parks and Recreation, will give you an up-close look at birds of prey such as hawks, owls, and falcons. Learn about their habitat and behavior, and conservation efforts to protect these remarkable creatures.

On Saturday, Oct. 14 at 10:30 a.m., the Alpine Library Friends Association is hosting a San Diego Oasis class, The Afterlife Chronicles: Exploring the Connection Between Life, Death, and Beyond. This class covers near-death experiences, innate intuition, and lifechanging experiences in spirit communication. The instructor, Nicole Strickland, is a paranormal researcher, author, writer, an Award-Winning Radio host.

We have more programs to get you in the spirit leading up to Halloween. Do you like a good spooky story? The kind that makes your hair stand on end? Expert storyteller, Harlynne Geisler, has everything from not-so-spooky tales to spinechilling stories in her arsenal. Take in Spooky Tales from the Storybag, on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m.…if you dare.

On Saturday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m., kids will have fun with Make a Monster. We provide the craft supplies, you bring your imagination. Mad scientists come and bring your creations to life!

We have numerous other fun events happening in October. To see the complete schedule or visit sdcl.org/alpine.

See you at the library!
