Grossmont Union High School District announced that Brianne Svacina of El Cajon Valley High School was named the District’s 2025 Counselor of the Year as GUHSD joined school districts nationwide in honoring the contributions of school counselors during National School Counseling Week from Feb. 3-7.
Svacina is an eight-year employee of GUHSD and has spent the past four years at ECVHS. Before becoming a school counselor, Svacina spent four years at West Hills High School as a guidance information specialist.
Svacina is a dedicated staff leader, consistently takes on additional responsibilities to enhance student opportunities, including serving as a class advisor, organizing fundraising for senior scholarships, facilitating lunchtime karaoke for students, assisting with after-school tutoring, and supporting programs for the smooth transition of ninth graders into high school
“Ms. Svacina is someone both students and staff turn to when they have questions or need advice,” said El Cajon Valley High School Principal Rob Stirling in a press release. “She builds strong, lasting relationships with all students and encourages them to be the best versions of themselves.”
El Cajon Valley Science Teacher Timothy Woolston said Svacina is an outstanding counselor that works beyond her job description for the students and staff at ECVHS.
“On top of everything that she juggles on campus, she maintains an optimism and positivity that is infectious. She brightens everyone’s day and deserves this recognition for all of her hard work,” said Woolston.
